Ex-leader beats on "women only" lists
A senior Labor council has accused his party of voting in Peterborough via all-women shortlists.
Cllr Mohammed Jamil, the former Leader of the Labor Group at the Peterborough City Council, said "decent men" are unable to stand for the party, as a woman in certain districts under a guideline of laboratories national and regional Branches had to be selected.
Cllr Jamil said," Some seats are all women seats so decent men in the station can not stand. Sometimes that goes against the Labor Party. Sometimes the other thing prevents you from joining.
"Let's get 20 to 25 seats and then look at the numbers and the leadership does not seem to understand that."
The representative of Central's comments, however, was from the women's representative for the Labor Party in Peterborough, Nazreen Bibi, has been called sexist. She said the electoral lists were a "positive thing". She added, "Looking at statistics, there are fewer women and fewer female Pakistani candidates, and if we do something that involves women, it should be encouraged and not discouraged."
Labor MP Fiona Onasanya was asked on three occasions if she would like to comment, but referred the Peterborough Telegraph to a spokesman from eastern England
He replied: "The Labor Party has a strong and proud record of the increasing involvement of women in politics, from the base to the Houses of Parliament.
"The use of All-Women a List is one way we have achieved that.
Labor currently holds 16 council seats, two of which are filled before local elections in May.
The current Labor Party council leader, Carl Ed Murphy, said: "I am pleased that on May 3 a There is an increasing number of female candidates to stand for, and sooner or later I would like to see at least one female Labor Council representative in all three of the constituent districts of Peterboroug h.
"Allwomen shortlists are a proven way to achieve this."
